چکیده

The aim of the present study was to provide a current survey of the species of parasites found in the Upper Paraná River floodplain, as well as to investigate which strategies and mechanisms used by parasites, are favored and which environmental factors influence the parasite community in the studied environments. During a seven-year period from February 2000 to September 2007, 3,768 fish belonging to 72 species were collected and analyzed for the purpose of studying the parasite fauna. A total of 337 species of parasites were reported, including 12 new descriptions: one myxosporid, Henneguya paranaensis Eiras, Pavanelli and Takemoto, 2004; eight monogeneans, Kritskyia annakohnae Boeger, Tanaka and Pavanelli, 2001; Kritskyia boegeri Takemoto, Lizama and Pavanelli, 2002; Kritskyia eirasi Guidelli, Takemoto and Pavanelli, 2003; Demidospermus labrosi França, Isaac, Pavanelli and Takemoto, 2003; Demidospermus mandi França, Isaac, Pavanelli and Takemoto, 2003; Pseudovancleaveus paranaensis França, Isaac, Pavanelli and Takemoto, 2003; Tereancistrum curimba Lizama, Takemoto and Pavanelli, 2004 and Tereancistrum toksonum Lizama, Takemoto and Pavanelli, 2004; two digeneans, Sanguinicola platyrhynchi Guidelli, Isaac and Pavanelli, 2002 and Dadayius pacupeva Lacerda, Takemoto and Pavanelli, 2003 and one cestode, Nomimoscolex pertierrae Chambrier, Takemoto and Pavanelli, 2005. In addition, several other species were reported for the first time in new hosts or in the floodplain. Monogeneans presented the highest number of species, followed by digeneans. The infection site with the highest species richness was the intestine, with 127 species.

Influence of host sex and age on infracommunities of metazoan parasites of Prochilodus lineatus (Valenciennes, 1836) (Prochilodontidae) of the upper Paraná River floodplain, Brazil.

149 specimens of Prochilodus lineatus were collected on the upper Paran6 River floodplain. Of these, 121 (82.1%) were parasitized. 33 species of metazoan parasites were recorded. Rhinonastes pseudocapsaloideum was classified as secondary, while all other species were classified as satellites. Ergasilus sp. and Tereancistrum curimba were positively associated and their abundances were positively...

Condition factor in nine species of fish of the Characidae family in the upper Paraná River floodplain, Brazil.

The condition factor for nine species of tropical freshwater fish of the Characidae family in the upper Paraná River floodplain is described. Fish were caught over a period of 12 months (February 1993 to March 1994). Knowledge of the nine species is important for adequate management and maintenance of the biological equilibrium of the ecosystem.

Ecological Aspects of Monogenean Gill Parasites (platyhelminthes) from Hoplias Aff. Malabaricus (bloch, 1794) (pisces, Erythrinidae) in a Neotropical Floodplain Aspectos Ecológicos De Monogeneos Parásitos Branquiales (platyhelminthes) De Hoplias Aff. Malabaricus (bloch, 1794) (pisces, Erythrinidae) En Una Planicie De Inundación Neotropical

We analyzed 54 specimens of Hoplias aff. malabaricus (Bloch, 1794) collected between March 2010 and March 2011 from the upper Paraná river Neotropical floodplain, Brazil. All hosts were parasitized by at least one species of Monogenea. The parasites species with higher prevalence were Urocleidoides cuiabai Rosim, Mendoza-Franco & Luque, 2011 (96.29 %) and U. malabaricusi Rosim, Mendoza-Franco &...

Gill parasites of Prochilodus lineatus ( Valenciennes , 1836 ) ( Pisces ;

We studied gill parasites of Prochilodus lineatus in the San Javier River, which is connected to the Middle Paraná System (Santa Fe, Argentina). In 25 specimens, the parasite prevalence in branchial organs was 92% and the average intensity was 8.3 parasites/infested fish. The parasite community showed no dominance of any taxon, but the family Dactylogyridae represented 60% of the community. We ...

Host population density as the major determinant of endoparasite species richness in floodplain fishes of the upper Paraná River, Brazil.

A comparative analysis of parasite species richness was performed across 53 species of fish from the floodplain of the upper Paraná River, Brazil. Values of catch per unit effort, CPUE (number of individuals of a given fish species captured per 1000 m(2) of net during 24 h) were used as a rough measure of population density for each fish species in order to test its influence on endoparasite sp...
